Things you need to know about Psoriasis

Have you ever met someone with psoriasis? Approximately 7.5 million people in the U.S. have been dealing with psoriasis. Did you ever see a person with the signs of the diseases? Did you sense the level of frustration and irritation they have been dealing with? The red, small red dots, scaly skin patches, or the pus-filled blisters are the most common symptoms of this disease. It can be seen on the elbows, hands, back, stomach, or even the face.

This skin infection is more than a cosmetic problem. Because people start staring, snickering, or passing comments on the looks of the affected people. Therefore, people start learning the lessons to deal with in all parts of life, from clothing to romance to jobs.

If you want to avoid this infectious disease, it would be better to learn more about this skin infection. In this way, you can also help people who have it to faceless stigma and misunderstanding about their condition.

Here’s what people with psoriasis would like the rest of us to know.

No, it’s not contagious.

Some people think that this skin infection is contagious. But this is just a myth. You cannot catch the disease by touching someone who has it. Even though psoriasis symptoms show up on the skin, the main problem is with the immune system, which is called an autoimmune disease.

To be more precise, it means that the body’s defenses overreact at the wrong time, which affects the body from inside and outside. The immune system of people with psoriasis causes skin cells to grow much faster than normal. They pile up too quickly and form thick, scaly lesions.

But with psoriasis, they die much faster, and piled up with each other and flake off in droves. That may be one reason why so many people think psoriasis is contagious. But it isn’t. So, what is the root cause of this disease? Well, about 10% of people carry a gene that could lead to it.

However, researchers and dermatologists think that this skin infection is likely a combination of triggers and genes in the environment, including stress, depression, consumption of alcohol, some medications, steroids, and infections. Though the real cause is still not identified yet, it is for sure that this is not a contagious problem.

It’s not just a skin thing.

Don’t think of psoriasis as just dandruff or dry skin. It’s more than that.

Though the symptoms of this infection are visible on the skin such as red patches, white-silverish skin, and much more, it’s not really a skin disease. It’s an autoimmune disease, meaning a person’s immune system has turned against her body. It can also affect several different body parts, along with your emotions.

Your co-worker’s treatment may not work for others.

People who are suffering from psoriasis often heard about the suggested treatments and diets to fight against it. There are chances that the suggested treatment that worked for someone else will not work for you. If it happens, then the good intentions of the person may sometimes feel very frustrating and irritating.

People are throwing out ideas when they don’t have psoriasis themselves and sometimes feel very disheartening to affected people. It is not true that “What works for one person may not work for another person.” Sometimes, it may take patience to find the right therapies, but the good news is that there’s probably something to help everyone.

There is hope.

Despite all the frustrations of living with psoriasis, people with the condition still have hope—a treatment that can actually cure this infection permanently. Back in the days, nobody knew about psoriasis, but now there’s a lot of hope.

How Does Psoriatic Arthritis Affect Your Body?

Got pitted nails? Got red and scaly rashes? Dealing with joint pain? These are the common symptoms of psoriatic arthritis (PsA). This type of disease is quite similar to rheumatoid arthritis.

This disease can be found in approximately 30% of the people suffering from the skin condition psoriasis. It can affect several different body parts, along with your emotions. If you are facing any kind of symptoms, it is always advisable to visit dermatologists to stay aware of all kinds of problems.

What do we understand by Psoriatic Arthritis?

Psoriatic arthritis is chronic and inflammatory diseases of the joints and the places where ligaments and tendons connect to bone. This all happens when the immune system of the infected person develops the inflammation that leads to several issues- swelling, pain, fatigue, and stiffness in the joints. Well, there is no specific age limit. But psoriatic arthritis starts between ages 30 and 50. If you have psoriasis from 10 years, there will be chances for you to be its next victim.

However, there is also noticed that people can also develop psoriatic arthritis without having psoriasis. That’s why it is always advisable to stay aware of all the symptoms of this type of psoriasis so that you can take care of yourself and your family members.

Let’s learn more about the effects of psoriatic arthritis on the body, as well as symptoms to watch for.

Effects on the skin, hair, and nails

The integumentary system of the body comprises skin, hair, and nails. People who have PsA tend to suffer the classic psoriasis symptoms, including the rough, red patches on the skin and the thickened nails.

This happens due to the acceleration of the life cycle of the skin cycles. The new cells come to the outer layer of the skin in a few days instead of the weeks. Some dermatologists believe that this process occurs because the body tries to heal a wound or fight an infection that is not there.

So, the new skin cells rapidly build up on the skin to form the scaly patches and itchiness that characterize psoriasis. The skin may feel warm and turn red due to widened or dilated blood vessels. The patches may sometimes be painful.

Effects on the eyes and vision

The PsA can also affect the vision and eyes. As a matter of fact, inflammation and red dots in and around the eyes can affect vision.

It has been estimated that approximately 7 percent of people with PsA will develop uveitis, which is a full pack of the diseases related to eye inflammation. If it is not diagnosed on time, then Psoriasis-related eye conditions can cause a loss of vision.

Skin Symptoms

These include the classic signs of psoriasis. You might notice:

  • Small, dark pink bumps
  • Raised white bumps filled with pus (these are signs of pustular psoriasis)
  • Raised red patches covered in silver-white flakes.
  •  It can affect places you can’t see, like your scalp, bellybutton, and genitals.

Me and My Psoriasis

It’s summer again! Several people were shedding their sweaters and jeans to pack them in their wardrobe while I was looking for cover. I had been dealing with psoriasis. I was visiting the dermatologist for seven or eight years, not because I like shopping for clothes so much.

But I really wanted to get a cure from this skin disorder. I was so depressed at that time; I actually started calling psoriasis, stubborn, and ugly. It would not be wrong to say that I had tried every medication to treat this skin infection. But everything was fading away, except the red and flaky patches on the skin.

When I was diagnosed in college, I was so blown that I couldn’t even think of anything else. I was so young and eager to experience the new hues of life outside my campus, but my unsightly elbows and knuckles altered my direction. I was almost occupied with the thought of relieving from psoriasis. I grew cautions in living my standard of life, started living in long sleeves, and covered clothes.

What do we know about psoriasis?

It has been noted that depression, stress, changes in weather conditions, skin trauma, and smoking are the number one comorbidity of psoriasis. Even though 1 out of 50 worldwide is dealing with psoriasis, the cure and the treatment is under-researched.

The main cause of psoriasis is the unnecessary acceleration for the growth of skin cells resulting in inflammation.

But it is thought that the psoriasis is triggered when the genes react with the exposure of external factors. Scientists have now identified about 25 genetic variants, which increase the probability of a person developing psoriasis. There are various types of psoriasis, and it has been said that it’s possible to have more than one type.

Types of Psoriasis-

Depending upon the symptom of psoriasis, this type of skin disorder is classified into five categories. But I am specifying some of the most common types of psoriasis which I have faced. Let’s read about them!

Plaque Psoriasis

Plaque Psoriasis is the most common type of skin disorder, and it can be found about 8 in 10 people with psoriasis have this kind. Generally, doctors call this type of disease as “Psoriasis Vulgaris.” Plaque Psoriasis triggers red skin patches, inflamed, and whitish-silvery scales on the body.

It can appear anywhere on your body, but it often pops up in these areas:

  • Scalp
  • Lower back
  • Elbows
  • Knees

Guttate Psoriasis

This type of psoriasis often starts at a younger age. Normally, guttate psoriasis happens in less than 2% of the case. But I was the victim of this skin disorder. I know how I managed to live with this disease. Because it causes small, pink-red spots on your skin, it appeared basically on my underarms and trunk.

Below shared are some symptoms for this-

  • Trunk
  • Upper arms
  • Thighs
  • Scalp

How does Comizla work well?

However, over time, I came to know about Comizla psoriasis therapy cream to cure the infection. I tried it for once and experienced a wonderful impact on my patches. Though some medications try to treat symptoms of psoriasis, Comizla works on treating the root cause. In short, this treatment is three times more effective than our closest OTC competitor.

This is the first biomedicine cream that can help to cure psoriasis without any side-effects. And it was guaranteed that it could help you to get rid of psoriasis within just 60 days! So, without having second thoughts, I tried this ointment! I was amazed that it really worked for me. Comizla™ is not a temporary fix , it’s a solution.
